When Pokemon was catching on in highschools in the UK I was bullied because my family was too poor to afford pokemon trading cards or pokemon videogames or… nice things in general really. When I first saw the show on TV I remember thinking:
“Its YOU. You, pokemon, are why I have no friends and highschool is terrible. Fuck you pokemon, fuck you forever.”
Obviously I know now it’s not pokemon’s fault, it was just my stupid kid brain making silly associations but I’ve never really gotten over my pokemon tantrum. I’d like to maybe try playing one of the games or something but 10 years of stubborn childish angst is hard to overcome. Plus I don’t have any nostalgia for pokemon, just bitter confused memories.
